Our most-requested honeymoon pairs two neighbours that feel worlds apart: tea hills, leopards and ancient cities, then pure ocean. Here is how the two weeks flow.
Why the pairing works
Most honeymoon couples want two things that seem to pull in opposite directions: to see something, and to do nothing. Sri Lanka and the Maldives, an hour's flight apart, answer both: a week of texture and discovery, then a week of pure stillness on the water. You come home feeling you have travelled and rested in equal measure.
It is also wonderfully logical. You fly into Sri Lanka, work your way down the island, and finish a short hop away in the Maldives, so the trip builds naturally to its quiet, perfect ending rather than doubling back.
Week one: Sri Lanka
We usually begin in the Cultural Triangle, with the rock fortress of Sigiriya at dawn and the calm of ancient cities, before climbing into the hill country: tea estates above the cloud line, and the famous train winding through the green. From there it is down to the south: a safari for leopards in Yala, then the colonial charm of Galle and the first taste of the coast.
It is a week of real variety, carried by one private guide who becomes a friend by the third day. The pace is unhurried by design, with empty afternoons built in: the hours couples tend to remember most.

Week two: the Maldives
Then the switch flips. A short flight to Malé, a seaplane over the atolls, and you arrive at your island with nothing left to do but enjoy each other. An overwater villa with steps into the lagoon, a reef alive beneath you, dinner on a sandbank with no one for miles.
After a week of discovery, the stillness lands as a reward rather than a lull. It is the honeymoon equivalent of exhaling, and the reason we so often plan the trip in this order.

When to go
The classic window is December to March, when Sri Lanka's west and south coasts and hill country are dry, and the Maldives is in its sunny season: the two line up beautifully. The gap between Sri Lanka's monsoons, around March and April, can also be gloriously clear nearly everywhere.
Because both destinations have their own weather, the timing is part of the craft; tell us your dates and we will steer you to the version that flatters them.
Making it yours
The shape flexes easily. Couples who want more beach trim a hill-country night and add one in the Maldives; those who want more adventure add a night of whale-watching off Mirissa or a second safari park. The honeymoon is authored around the two of you, then handled entirely, so all you do is arrive.
If you would like to see how we build it, our Sri Lanka journey is the natural starting point, and we extend it into the Maldives for honeymooners as a matter of course.
Frequently asked
How long do you need for a Sri Lanka and Maldives honeymoon?
Around fourteen nights is ideal: roughly a week in Sri Lanka for the culture, hills and safari, then a week in the Maldives to rest. It can be compressed to ten or twelve nights if time is short.
What is the best time for this honeymoon?
December to March suits both destinations: dry on Sri Lanka's west and south coasts and hill country, and sunny in the Maldives. The inter-monsoon weeks of March and April can be beautifully clear too.
Which order should we do them in?
Sri Lanka first, then the Maldives. Doing the discovery while you are fresh and finishing on the water means the stillness arrives as a reward, and the geography flows naturally that way.
Can the itinerary be adjusted?
Entirely. We lengthen the beach, add a second safari, or build in whale-watching off Mirissa. The whole thing is authored around you and then handled end to end.
